PRACTICES - Guidelines on CAD for Simulation

Why?
Because the requirements of CAD for prototyping/manufacture
and CAD for simulation often conflict. To give one example, very small features – like bolts or the maker’s logo – are needed for manufacturing whereas in the CFD model they merely increase the computational requirement without influencing results.
Long having recognized the issues of CAD with simulation, CDadapco has gone about resolving them through software developments like their CAD-embedded solutions (STAR-CAD Series) and surface wrapping. However, significant improvements to simulation efficiency can be achieved through intelligent use of the CAD tool’s own functionality. Bring on the Best Practice Guidelines.
The Guidelines are aimed both at engineers who are new to CFD and want to know more about its CAD requirements, and at simulation experts who want to know more about CAD. Through a series of simple examples the user is guided through a number of techniques to optimize CAD for simulation. The guides are available for all four members of the STAR-CAD Series and their corresponding CAD/PLM tool: STAR-CAT5 (for CATIA V5), STAR-NX (for Unigraphics NX), STAR-Works (for SolidWorks) and STARPro/ E (for Pro/ENGINEER).
